Nina Metz Chicago Tribune To Code of Silence’s credit, it’s told from the point of view of Alison, rather than the police. Rated: 3/4 Jul 16, 2025 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times If the character’s naivety stretches credulity, her desire to be useful rings true... Ayling-Ellis succeeds in capturing feelings of insecurity and excitement and imbues Alison with authenticity amid an unconvincing crime story. Rated: 3/5 May 28, 2025 Full Review Carol Midgley The Times (UK) Moulton’s script is written from experience and with veracity and shows its sheer complexity. The result is a fresh, original drama that has done the near impossible and given us a cop drama with something new to say. Rated: 4/5 May 23, 2025 Full Review Archika Khurana The Times of India Code of Silence thrives on its details—technical, emotional, and social. While it risks veering into implausibility as Alison goes from civilian observer to key player, it manages to stay grounded thanks to a strong script and standout performances. Rated: 4/5 Jul 30, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Code Of Silence hinges on the bright and curious performance of Rose Ayling-Ellis, but it also presents an interesting, somewhat off-beat investigation for her to be involved with. Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said Deaf actor Rose Ayling-Ellis does outstanding work as an exceptional woman, smart and brave, helped no doubt by the adapting to a speaking world, but naïveté and risk taking are her downfall. Merri C I watched through episode two but stopped because Alison acts so stupid. Come on--she's texting about the criminal owner of the bar she works in WHILE HE'S THERE and he catches her. Her character is just too clueless but she insists people always underestimate her. Not for me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Chris N Rose Ayling-Ellis and cast are wonderful actors. May adjust my rating to a must see. Love the premise and can’t wait to see more. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Deb F Bravo! What I loved best about this series is the way it forced me, as a hearing person, to become sensitive to things I'd never have noticed if I weren't viewing the scenes from the perspective of a deaf person. Even though we can hear the other characters, we're suddenly acutely aware of the importance of their body language, facial expressions, and position in the room--especially whether she has her back turned to them and can't hear them coming up behind her. The acting, direction, and writing were great, and I can't wait for season 2! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review William B. Very good. A much more realistic portrayal of lip reading. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review Kenny M I was really looking forward to this series, and allowed a few episodes to build up on my planner so I could binge watch it. However I had to stop watching after 30 minutes of trying really hard to like it. The massively excessive over-use of visual effects like blurring, low depth of field, excessive vingetting, soft focus and lens flare make this a real headache inducing experince. Every single shot is filmed through the back of a chair, or a door jam, or a tree, or at a ridiculous low angle. Every single scene is mostly out of focus, with obvisouly blurred edges and backgrounds. It's like someone tripped over a pot full of visual effects and spilled them all over the edit. Just because you have a visual effects tool doesn't mean you have to use it on every single scene! Keep the effects for adding dramatic effect only when needed, and only sparingly. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/20/25 Full Review Evan J My opinion: Genuinely loved it. The whole cast is so talented and, even as someone who doesn't normally watch this sort of genre, I really enjoyed binging it. Rose Ayling-Ellis is an onscreen sensation.
