Siddhant Adlakha Variety For a film with a name like “Guns Up,” there’s surprisingly little by way of armed shootouts until the final act. For a tale of a family man moonlighting as a mob enforcer, the story and action lack the urgency suggested by its one-last-job premise. Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com While there are several problems with the film as a whole, perhaps the central one is that there are long stretches where viewers are expected to take the concept at least somewhat seriously, which proves impossible. Rated: .5/4 Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Bobby LePire Film Threat Guns Up isn’t the most original film of the year, but it is one of the most fun. Rated: 9/10 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media It's probably not worth the price of a theater ticket, but if you come across it at home or on an airplane, this Kevin James actioner has enough story and laughs to pass a couple of hours. Jul 23, 2025 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com Drake delivers an extraordinarily generic offering of violence and cutesiness in “Guns Up,” supplying nothing new to viewers as the endeavor goes through a tiresome routine of shoot-outs and unwelcome broadness. Rated: D+ Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Nicholas Bell Fish Jelly Films (YouTube) Guns Up is a pleasant, innocuous, B-grade action flick indubitably borrowing from countless other films about 'families who slay together stay together,' but Kevin James and Christina Ricci supply a charm these narratives often lack. Candace F Firstly, "comedy/action"- I was waiting the whole time to laugh, the only reason we watched was for comic relief. For side jokes. Luis Guzman is the only saving grace because who doesn't love him as himself, as he plays. But, truly, who wanted this movie? Who asked for it? We'll never know. Did KJ fund it for himself to try out a different kind of role? Story line? Boring. Interest in the characters? Non-existent. Kevin James is not a serious action star- he should stick to comedy-action not anything remotely seriously leaning unless it's emotional seriousness later in a film (believable growth). No one will ever watch this man in a serious role even hinting as seriousness- it's not typecasting, either- he's just not good at it. I don't care if you make him bald with a cool beard, he's not good at being a serious action star/agent/etc. Christina Ricci should fire her agent for putting her in this film. On the height of Yellowjackets, you waste her in this total nonsense plot? ZERO chemistry with Kevin James, ZERO- so there was no character love for her at all either in this movie. Oh, she's like him too... who cares. So very disappointed she put herself through this when she's capable of incredible acting in roles that suit her. Weird movie, overplayed and uninspiring story line, not funny either. Why. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/22/25 Full Review A T Better than a lot of the AI garbage that is being rushed out. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/21/25 Full Review Todd F I really wanted this movie to be better as I am a Kevin James fan. I really wish I could get that time back. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review sebastian andres o Edward Drake delivers one of the most entertaining films of his filmography. The director and screenwriter, who worked constantly with Bruce Willis during the actor's later years, delivers a simple, straightforward yet effective film thanks to the committed cast at his disposal. Kevin James's new role as a more serious actor bears fruit, especially in his time as a hitman. Here, he delivers all his usual charisma in a role with subtle comedic overtones that give it an added bonus. He's joined by Christina Ricci, who excels in her role as a hit machine. We also add the always efficient Luis Guzmán as a hilarious supporting actor. It's a film that has its own small charm and works quite well as a diversion without major expectations. It has enjoyable action sequences and subtle, somewhat dark humor that embellish this action-packed, bullet-riddled film into a pleasant enough weekend watch. It's a small film among this summer's blockbusters, but it still delivers exactly what it promises without any major complaints. A familiar story, with touches of humor and decent action sequences, seal the success of Guns Up. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Audience Member This movie is just fun... 90m - in and out - kept my attention and a really fun 3rd act. A nice surprise for a VERY low expectation movie - way better than expected and deserves more eyes on it - as it is just a fun, little ride. Whoever picks this up for free streaming on their service, I think this movie could blow up... probably hard though on "New at Home" lists to justify the whole $6-7 rental, but IMHO, money well spent. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Eric S All action all fun just solid all the way through turn off the brain turn on the popcorn let's go real classic movie style right when you need it probably my favorite Kevin James movie and Christina Ricci is amazing. Sequels would be great. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Read all reviews
