Critics Consensus

Eddington carries a stellar cast, fearless direction by Ari Aster and an off-kilter story, but its tonal misdirection will often leave viewers wanting.

Coleman Spilde Salon.com The film certainly looks and functions better than the average piece of COVID media, but it rings just as self-serving, more of an exercise in anxiety management for its creator than something with tangible meaning for the viewer. Jul 29, 2025 Full Review Maxwell Rabb Chicago Reader Aster manages to spike tension without losing the reins over two-and-a-half hours thanks to the sharp cinematography by Darius Khondji. Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Kyle Smith Wall Street Journal Is it a complete success? No -- it’s an uncontained, unruly animal. Some scenes fall flat... Yet its satiric venom is well targeted, and there are times when it becomes a Hogarthian vision of our manifold faults and follies. Jul 22, 2025 Full Review Josh Rosenberg Esquire Magazine Eddington doesn’t seek to provide the answers. But it might be the only film since the pandemic that understands that the current conflict in America has deeper roots for humanity’s problems than whether you vote red or blue. Jul 30, 2025 Full Review Michael Nordine Movie Brief Too little, too soon. Jul 29, 2025 Full Review Eric Langberg Everything's Interesting Eddington is a deeply-cynical film, one that (correctly) notes we’ve lost ourselves… if in fact we ever had actual selves worth holding onto. The lunatics run the asylum now. Jul 29, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Ankur P Good premise not a great execution - story needs tightening Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/31/25 Full Review ALVIN H Another great Ari Aster movie after hits like Midsommar and Hereditary…..this “social commentary “ film plays out like a film noir and is long hour’s movie time is justified with the great story and actors behind it making the movie ‘s theme the most talked about political subjects for the last 5-6 years. Regardless of your “own” political views…this movie was made to challenge both sides of the political spectrum. Go enjoy the movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review David M Started a little slow but, man, it sure picked up the pace halfway through. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Sean Worst movie ever. It's like a horrible revisit to the pandemic era. And everything else that was going on at the same time. Avoid like the pandemic. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Anonymous A telling recount of the societal influences underlying our countrys current dilemmas. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Adam Interesting movie. Not as divisive or as controversial as I expected it to be. Just weird and anxiety-inducing. Not as substantive as it wants to be. But a good cinema experience nonetheless. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Read all reviews
