Superman Reviews

Idealistic with an intense need to fight for pure goodness in this world, this Superman is one worth rooting for with his humanism and charm played superbly by lead actor David Corenswet.

Fortunately for any kind of audience member, this is a blend of safety and creative risk that results not only in a very good Superman movie but also another great James Gunn film. [Full review in Spanish]

A brighter, cleaner, and more upbeat interpretation of the character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster back in 1938, this film is a noble and entertaining take on Superman.

I was prepared for this to be a disaster but it ended up being an incredibly refreshing take on a superhero that I was kind of over.

The cast was fantastic and despite its break-neck pace, I really enjoyed this and it somehow made me a Superman fan!

This may not be the perfect Superman movie, but it’s the most human one in a very long time — and that makes all the difference.

Though nothing will ever make us believe a man can fly quite like the 1978 original, this Superman comes close enough to representing the genre at its best.

As cheesy as it may sound, though, Gunn’s film implores us to find the goodness in your fellow man and to always fight for what’s right.

Even by superhero movie standards, which aren’t as low as you’d think, James Gunn's Superman presents a rather racist view of the third-world.

The beloved superhero franchise has been hit or miss over the years so it’s been a nervous anticipation for fans but have no fear – this one is a winner.

Superman is goofy, hopeless, and rewarding in all of the best ways. It feels like James Gunn is attempting to build a DC Universe full of interesting characters that are not only worthy of being on screen but deserve to be there.

Full Review | Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 26, 2025

A bit too cluttered and tonally inconsistent. Still, Gunn has delivered an often likeable film — a promising, if uneven, starting point for what comes next.

Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jul 26, 2025

Preaches humanity and seeks to rekindle its pulsating heart. Yet the canvas is hollow. It’s a manufactured project that never lives up to its charming or lively reputation.

At a point in time when cynicism and distrust are at load-bearing capacity in so many facets of our lives, if we can’t conceive of a way to make goodness interesting… we might as well pack it in. We’re toast, y’all.

I certainly had fun.

To paraphrase LBJ, doing the right thing is easy — the hard part is figuring out the right thing to do. And that is how you write a good Superman movie.

Some are sure to enjoy this wild ride, while others almost certainly will want off pretty early.

Was it SUPER, man? Not quite but it felt right. The emotion hit hard, the action was well-shot, the characters were well-presented. We left the film feeling lifted and positive, and that will never be a bad thing. Sidenote: Krypto was the MVP.

...a disappointing missed opportunity that is, for the most part, rarely in the spirit of the decades-old protagonist.

“Superman” takes off and never lets go. Super.
