Sunshine Reviews
There’s beauty in it—Boyle and his team make a near-religious experience of getting up close and personal with the center of our solar system, buoyed by an effervescent score by John Murphy and British techno group Underworld.

Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland carefully seed the early part of the story with hints of the terrors to come.

The reteaming of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland (28 Days Later) delivers an awe-inspiring, gorgeous film with an unexpected genre shift.

Boyle's incredible visuals are complemented by his deep bench of international actors. And while the last act initially feels jarring in tone and subject, on subsequent viewings the foundation for Pinbacker and sun madness is present throughout

Sunshine is a film that is hit or miss and while your mileage may vary, one cannot deny the cinematic ambition of it all.
Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 4, 2022
Seems to linger in the realm of horror at the most inappropriate times, while also stifling the sense of adventure at equally inopportune moments.
Full Review | Original Score: 6/10 | Nov 28, 2020
Sunshine works on every level it strives for. If you come into the film looking for a thrill ride, the chances are good that you will be watching tensely with nothing less than the fate of the world hanging in the balance.

Sunshine simply sizzles.
Full Review | Nov 15, 2019
The human interaction and tension works, how every single member can be sacrificed for the larger good of the humankind. But the acting is uniformly dull, the cast is deadpan, poker-faced and robotic at best.

[Sunshine] delivers the visually incarnate truth of the universe's mysticism.
Full Review | Aug 24, 2017
In an age of technical advancements when filmmakers have circumvented ideas for synthetic visual thrills, here is a movie that plays like some decisive, brilliant rebellion to that pattern.

Don't pack a tube of SPF 50 to the theater; bring a can of Jolt or a double espresso.

"Sunshine's" mostly cerebral adventure into unquantifiable science and human nature makes its huh-what conclusion more forgivable. Loopy as it gets, once the Icarus II sets a course for the heart of the sun, "Sunshine" becomes a head-trip and a half.

Sunshine is a fantastically enjoyable film that works our minds, delights our senses and shows that futuristic science fiction can be serious drama rather than mere popcorn fodder.
Full Review | Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 6, 2010
Garland and Boyle are nothing if not ambitious. They want us to consider the Big Questions about the importance of mankind as well as science versus fundamentalism.

A barely noticeable eclipse next to the poetry of Woman in the Moon and Mission to Mars
Full Review | Aug 27, 2009
Leaves a lot to be desired from the standpoint of plot, character development and scientific credibility.

Nothing anyone does makes much sense, but gad, is it ever gorgeous.
