Nonnas has heart, but the execution falls flat. The premise is charming—Italian grandmothers sharing their love through food—but the film veers away from what it promises. Instead of being a celebration of authentic cuisine and lively kitchen drama, it turns into a predictable relationship story between the lead and his high school sweetheart, with a few glimpses into the nonnas’ past lives. Casting is a mixed bag, and the choice for the southern Italian nonna feels particularly off. The food scenes? Surprisingly sparse for a movie built around this concept. I wanted more of the chaos, passion, and rivalry that real Italian kitchens are known for—but it never delivers that punch. If you’re hoping for a rich, culinary love letter to Italian culture, you’ll be disappointed. This one’s more about romance than recipes. Do not recommend.

I feel that not many movies capture the obstacles someone faces when taking the risk of starting something on their own, but this one does. Sometimes ideas strike unexpectedly, and all you can do is try rather than live with the lingering feeling of “what if.” I found it to be a film that truly reflects that.
