But lots of thrills and action, plus some truly incredible CGI. Wish I could rate it higher, but there are so many plot points and character decisions in this film that are nonsensical. There is no substitute for good storytelling. The film isn't bad but it definatley doesn't have the magic of the original. It is lacking. Some of the characters though supposedly animal experts are incredibly dim witted. Their behaviour is beyond any rational thought and makes their characters unbelievable. I was happy to see Spielberg return for a sequel as he usually absolutely refuses to do sequels. Having seen this movie premier as a kid, I initially didn’t connect to the return of Jeff Goldblum but this movie grew on me over the years. Like its predecessor, it delivers the suspense and build up fans should expect from all the movies in the franchise. Unfortunately, this is the last movie that properly does so. The end in San Diego has always been a nice twist to the story. Bonus points for Pete Postlethwaite as Roland Tembo, a well-written character of which they knew exactly where to insert it. Not too little, not too much, great screen presence and a no nonsense exit showing that some people just get to see another day when they know when to quit. Vanessa Lee Chester, however, portrayed an unnecessary and somewhat annoying character. I’m pretty sure she was only shoe-horned in to give Goldblum’s character more dimension. But it feels she was only planted to kick a velociraptor. Her performance was great however, Well acted and well directed, but the movie simply could’ve gone without the character she portrayed.
