A stylish, subversive thriller from suspense-maverick Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse), concerning Yoshii, an ambitious, yet directionless, young factory worker from Tokyo who side hustles in the murky realm of black market reselling, cheating buyers and sellers alike. After swindling his way into loads of cash, he becomes slowly disconnected to humanity, moving out of the city, shunning his girlfriend, and hiring a devoted assistant. But after a series of mysterious, sinister incidents occur, he begins to suspect his former victims could be plotting the ultimate revenge. A master of carefully simmering tension to a bloody crescendo, Kurosawa delivers a searing portrait of digital greed and vengeance.

Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Kurosawa films the descent into kill-or-be-killed mayhem with his typically masterful visual proficiency — any given frame of Yasuyuki Sasaki’s no-nonsense cinematography can quickly go from bland to ominous. Jul 29, 2025 Full Review Zachary Barnes Wall Street Journal I stopped being convinced by it for a while. As “Cloud” continues, though, the nature of its narrative becomes clear. It isn’t realism; it’s a fable of a man besieged. Jul 22, 2025 Full Review Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture Kurosawa films psychological torment with real gravity, and he films physical cruelty with humorous detachment. The absurdity of his vision matches our topsy-turvy reality. Jul 21, 2025 Full Review Jorge Ignacio Castillo The Canadian Crew Cloud is not at the same level as Kurosawa’s best work, but it’s not easily dismissible. The ideas are there. They just fail to coalesce into a storyline worth unspooling. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 29, 2025 Full Review Hoai-Tran Bui Inverse An eerie, lean noir thriller that charts an unnerving odyssey through the strange underworld of online resellers... and a paranoid saga about living under the cold grip of late capitalism. Jul 29, 2025 Full Review Steve Erickson Arts Fuse In another director’s hands, the script for Cloud would have become a standard action movie. Kurosawa is different. Cloud finds nothing exciting about violence, and he doesn’t direct ‘action’ to look kinetic. Jul 29, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Taylor G I got sucked in by the trailer on this one but it was far from a thriller and the plot made no sense at all. There were moments throughout when it felt like it was about to pick up and deliver the suspenseful film that was promised but each time it fell flat again. Nonsensical and, in my opinion, not worth the watch. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Nicky P Interesting movie, but deteriorates into plot convenience theater with some WTF moments with characters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Stephen C Success in 2 hours and 3 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Filmed all over Japan and dubbed and subtitled on the Pacific coast in the USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The USA grossed over $62,500.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Audience Member A big fan of Kurosawa's films, but this was a slow burn thriller that never really adds up to much of anything. And the characters behave in ways that ultimately make no sense. The film has its moments but ultimately was a disappointing endeavor. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Read all reviews
